With summer winding down, it's time to start thinking about fall knits! If you're new to knitting and looking for a simple fall project to cast on, check out these ideas!

Leg Warmers by Jane Richmond
This pattern is so simple, it is literally only 5 lines long. Knit in the round, with a knit and purl rib pattern on repeat, it doesn't get much more simple than this!
Basketweave Infinity Scarf by adKnits
I love infinity scarves because there so many different way you can wear them.
Plus, you don't have to fool with finishing off the ends! This scarf is knit with two strands of yarn held together for a nice chunky knit and uses only knit and purl stitches. It's constructed in the round on big needles, so it knits up quickly!
Knitbot Simple Hat by Hannah Fettig
Everyone needs a solid winter beanie, and this pattern is great because of its flexibility. It has directions for five different sizes (baby to adult), and three different yarn weights (bulky, worsted, and dk) that you can make the hat in. You only need to know how to do three stitches to make this hat: knit, purl, and knit 2 together. This pattern is knit in the round, which I promise you, isn't as hard as it looks. The only other tricky thing is that the pattern calls for a long-tail cast on (my favorite way to cast on, incidentally), but that can easily be replaced with a different cast on method if long-tail is outside your comfort zone.
The World's Simplest Mittens by Tin Can Knits
Mittens, with their thumb gussets, can seem a little overwhelming to a new knitter, but this pattern makes mittens easy! It includes sizes for all ages, options for four different yarn weights, and has a link for an in-depth mitten making tutorial. You can't go wrong!
Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits
If you're ready to tackle a larger knit, like a sweater, this is the perfect pattern to start with. Part of Tin Can Knits' Simple Collection (a collection of patterns made specifically for beginners), this pattern is really easy to follow and has links throughout that take you to more thorough explanations of almost every technique. Plus, it comes written in sizes for the whole family. I just made one for my daughter, and it was a great basic knit.
